WHAT IS YPT?

CAP Merrick’s YPT (Young People Theater) program is the perfect way for young performers to continue to build their knowledge of and love for theater by participating in professionally directed musical productions. Our YPT program enables growing actors to experience what it is like to take the stage equipped with beautiful sets, lights, and costumes in roles they may otherwise not get the opportunity to play, all while enhancing their social and teamwork skills working with their peers. With six to ten opportunities to perform in a YPT production each year, the actors have the opportunity to build their resumés for college and professional work!

Our YPT program is open to all children (pricing structure below), but we highly encourage all interested to participate in one of our Musical Theater & Acting Academy (MTAA) classes. We find that students truly learn best when provided the opportunity to take the skills and techniques learned during in-class, individualized training and apply it to the YPT production. It is why CAP offers the best training program for young actors on Long Island! If you are enrolled in an MTAA class, all YPT productions at our Merrick location are FREE of charge!

CLASSES

For over 20 years the MTAA students at the Cultural Arts Playhouse have gained the confidence and self-esteem to lead successful lives, whether on or off the stage.

Founded in 1995, CAP’s Musical Theater and Acting Academy is the most successful acting school on Long Island for children/teen/young adults. More than 40 of our students have worked on Broadway, national tours, regional theaters, movies, HBO specials, commercials, and voice overs.

The class curriculum is designed to give students an overall education in all aspects of theatre, including speech and diction exercises, dance, improvisation, monologues, audition techniques, scene study and voice.  Students who have attended classes at CAP have frequently been cast in their school shows, community performances and camp productions due to their training at CAP!

AVAILABLE for GRADES K THROUGH 12
